We are so excited to begin hosting reunions in the springtime starting this May! The Office of Alumni Engagement will sponsor events for alumni on both Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4. A full schedule of activities will be shared in the weeks ahead.
Ravens celebrating a reunion year — classes ending in 3, 4, 8 and 9 — will have an additional opportunity to celebrate with classmates on Saturday evening. Look for an email from your class agent for more information about your class party!

On March 24, Tucker Street alumni attended a reunion on campus, the first since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Smedes York ’59 kicked off the gathering, then attendees heard from Head of School Doreen Kelly and other members of the school’s Leadership Team.

In celebration of the class’s 50th reunion, Holly Stinson, Susan Harris West, Bill Moore, Billy Howard, Ted Salisbury, Bill Wilson, Billy Troxler, Frank Turner and Howard Kohn returned to campus in May for a tour and panel discussion by members of the school’s Leadership Team. Several of them later marched with the Class of 2023 during their graduation exercises.

Marcia Keeth retired from Charles County (Maryland) Government on Jan. 1, 2023. Her tenure with the county’s economic development program spanned over 20 years, beginning in 2002 when she was hired as the marketing director. She rose to the position of Deputy Director for the department and twice served as Acting Director. Before that, Marcia had a 23-year career in radio. She worked in Raleigh at WPTF, WQDR and WRDU in the ’70s and ’80s as a writer/producer. She was a network producer at Westwood One Radio Networks in Arlington, VA, 1989-2002. Marcia lives in Cobb Island, Maryland, a rural community on the Potomac River south of Washington, D.C., where she is enjoying retirement with her husband, John O’Loughlin, and their two dogs.

Vic Bell returned to campus in October as the keynote speaker for the Middle School’s Day of Service. Vic spoke to students about how his service activities at Ravenscroft helped him define what causes were important to him and how he remains committed to giving back to the community.

Dean Shavlik’s daughter, Jane Barrett, married Patrick Patterson on Dec. 9, 2022. Dean is also now a grandfather to Rebecca Rhodes Gauss, called Rhodes, born on Feb. 16, 2023.
Anita Daniel Kraynik’s first grandchild, Thomas Hudson Murphy, was born on Jan. 15, 2023.
Kim Johnson Scott’s daughter, Sydni, earned a 2022 Rhodes Scholarship and attended Oxford University. Sydni, a Columbia track and field senior, is the first female and 13th student-athlete in school history to become a Rhodes Scholar.
Lisa Phillips Perkinson’s son, Page, is the proud parent of a baby boy, Alvin Page Perkinson V, called Quint, born on April 6, 2023.
Cathy Edwards Lull became a grandmother with the birth of Jack Miles Lull on June 20, 2023. Cathy said that she is “blessed to be joining the Granny ranks.”

Dianne Jones Hyneman has a new job as an Assistant Case Manager at Lemieux & Associates, doing editing and quality control for final reports for its Special Investigation Unit, which deals with suspected fraud.
Beth Thomas Tripp welcomed a granddaughter, Lennon Emerson Tripp, on Sept. 13, 2023.

In August, Bill Finley and his wife, Cindy, celebrated the marriage of their eldest son, Josiah, in Oahu.
Adam Jones recently published his second children’s book, “Cecil and the Soccer Match,” which is available through local bookstores and online. “Soccer Match” is the second in a four-book series, with “Cecil and the Big Wave” published a few years ago. “Look for the rerelease of my novel, ‘Fate Ball,’ this spring,” he added. “My girls are in seventh and 10th grades at DA … yes, DA. All is well in the Jones household.”
Leah Marie Long retired after 19 years at Wedge Capital Management LLP in Charlotte, capping nearly 36 years in the investment business.
Former Ravenscroft board chair Kevin Anderson, notable for helping guide Ravenscroft through the early months of COVID-19 and for early visioning of the student life center, was recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award during a luncheon on campus in March.

Michael and Allexia Brewer, the owners of Ambrosia Kafeneio in Boone, will be the new owners of Hole Lotta Doughnuts in Boone and West Jefferson. “The new company will continue to offer amazing doughnuts to the High Country while incorporating Greek pastries, Greek specialty foods and grab-and-go food items into their King Street location, while West Jefferson will be home to the second location of Ambrosia Kafeneio,” Allexia said.
Ben (Benjye) Rose shared that a group of classmates got together at Oro for dinner. “It included me, Evi Smith, Allison Smith Shackelford and David Zarzar, along with my wife, Brenda Rose, and Evi’s husband, Scott Baublitz. We relived some old memories,” he said.

Jack Wiser wrote, “I retired after 34 years, starting at NCNB all the way to Bank of America in a journey that took me from Miami to Seattle. My wife, Mary, and I are moving from the Seattle area to Asheville, N.C., in 2024. I have two daughters: Hannah, who works with Sephora in the corporate office in San Francisco, and Laura, who is graduating from UNC’s medical school in 2024. We have enjoyed living in various areas around the country and look forward to the N.C. mountains.”

In the fall, David Lanning began the “challenging and exciting work” of serving as the Dean of Students at Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg, Minnesota, a PreK through 12th-grade school of around 300 students that was founded in 1910.

Sanna Bryant recently celebrated her 19th year at Spencer Stuart, a global executive search and leadership advisory firm, where she’s currently serving as an Associate within Academic Medicine and as Healthcare Analyst Practice Leader for North America. “Lynn Miedema and her daughter, Langdon, came to Atlanta this past April for the Taylor Swift concert,” she added. “So much fun to be with them!”

Douglas Myers shared that his son is now a freshman at the University of Tennessee, with his daughter in her third year there as well. “Go Vols!” he added. “As for myself, I moved to Greenville, South Carolina, over the summer and in the fall completed my first 200-mile ultramarathon, the Moab 240.”
Michael Woody lives near St. Michaels, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Carter (10) and Everett (7). They spend a lot of time on the water and with the kids’ sports. Michael has worked in pharmaceutical policy and advocacy for most of his career in Washington, D.C.

David Rountree wrote, “Hard to believe that we are over 30 years out of Ravenscroft now. I am hoping to make it back to the Alumni Weekend this spring and look forward to walking the halls of our school once again. Last year, my brother Benji ’96 and I flew to Nashville to watch Ric Flair’s roast and retirement wrestling match, which was a ton of fun. I am still working as a film director out in Los Angeles but also very excited to be involved as the co-creator of a new television series in development that involves many topics that our class dealt with growing up in the mid/late ’80s. My daughter, Chloe Jo, just completed her third full season as Topher Grace’s daughter on the ABC television show “Home Economics,” and her film “Spaceship” has been doing well on the film-festival circuit. She just started sixth grade, and I am a proud dad for sure.”

Marianna Carlson’s youngest son, Parker ’33, represented the United States in Scotland this summer at the UCI BMX World Championship. “He made the final event and finished sixth in the world for 8-year-old boys! In doing so, he automatically qualified to represent the United States for a second time in 2024!” she added.

We are thrilled with how quickly Tenley has adapted and are excited to see her continue to grow! 2023 also brought lots of travel for our family, which sparked the desire for both Jon and me to become licensed travel agents as a side hustle to our day jobs. I left Pfizer in December and am starting a new career in January 2024 with a smaller regulatory consulting firm in the pharmaceutical space as an Associate Director of Commercial Development. Jon is celebrating his fourth year at Almac Clinical Services as a Project Group Manager.”

2023 was a big year for Hillary Dotson Roseti and her husband, Matt. They moved from Washington, D.C., to Jacksonville, Florida, to be near the beach and enjoy Florida’s warm weather. Hillary completed a 6.5-year journey to becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist, wrapping up graduate school and her residency.

Alfre Wimberly earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2023. “I entered this program with a desire to pivot into the field of finance from my previous career path in environmental management and politics,” she said. “Over my years in that field, I developed a passion for energy transition, sustainable infrastructure development and general sustainable growth.”
Julia Swan Laird is in her second year of Pittsburgh Opera’s prestigious Resident Artist Program. This season she will perform Diana in “Iphigénie en Tauride,” Taller Daughter in “Proving Up” and Annina in “La Traviata.”
Savannah Story was appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to the Wilson Community College Board. In that role, Story and her fellow board members will support the college’s mission of providing opportunities for academic excellence, student success, workforce development and community partnerships. Savannah is an associate at the law firm of Poyner Spruill LLP.
Kianna Jiminez earned a doctorate in chemistry from NC State, graduating with honors and receiving several awards. She is currently employed by a major chemical company.

Kathleen Brandes has cofounded a robotics software start-up called Adagy Robotics, which streamlines error-resolution for robotics companies. The business was accepted into YCombinator, a start-up accelerator, for winter 2024.

In March, Rebecca Qubain Toole was promoted at the Purdue for Life Foundation and is now serving as Director of Project Management for the marketing and communications team. In this role, she continues to work on fundraising and alumni engagement projects for the foundation and Purdue University as a whole.

Payne Lubbers received a promotion at Point72 in the fall of 2023 and is relocating to London to help build out the company’s European research arm.

Andrew Ejiofor bought his first house in Atlanta and is working as a pharmacist by trade and as a drug investigator for the FDA.
Lucy Russell is starting a Ph.D. in Education at UNC-Chapel Hill, and husband Dante is running for the N.C. House of Representatives in Wilson County. They enjoyed having several Ravenscroft classmates in the bridal party and in attendance at their November wedding.
Brooke Sharp Santos earned a master’s degree from UNC-Wilmington in July and has started teaching as an adjunct lecturer in several universities across North Carolina.

Ben Schwarz started a new job as a transit-planning apprentice, helping to align routes, improve and modify bus stops, analyze micro-mobility data and research renewable technology improvements for the GoDurham transit system.
Caroline Vande Berg, who is pursuing a graduate degree at NC State, was interviewed for the university’s story about students’ role in producing Howling Cow ice cream via the school’s Dairy Enterprise System.

Zach Skubic was named by Poets & Quants as one of the best and brightest business majors for 2023. A finance major at Wake Forest University, he was recognized among an impressive group of 100 undergraduate business majors nationwide who personify the best in business education.
Makayla Crawford was featured in a senior profile as she approached graduation from the University of Tennessee.
In collaboration with a college classmate, Sergi Roura Sabat launched Adonis Lab Skincare, offering high-quality, straightforward skin-care solutions tailored for young men.
Quenton Blache graduated from University of Southern California with honors in May with a bachelor’s degree in cello performance and composition. Matt Lang has accepted a seat in the Master of Science in Data Science program at the University of Virginia.
Kemmia Ghodrat, who participated in Ravenscroft’s College Alumni Forum in January 2023, graduated summa cum laude from NC State in December with double majors in sociology and communication and double minors in psychology and parks, recreation and tourism management. She will be staying at NC State for one more year to pursue a Master in Hospitality Leadership and Communication and continue working in NC State University Special Events, planning events for the Chancellor’s office. Ben Fesko was accepted into the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Ben, who is attending Case Western as an undergrad, spoke alongside Eleanor Campbell (Columbia University) and Sam Rappaport (UNC-Chapel Hill) and several other college-age alumni at Ravenscroft’s College Alumni Forum in January 2023.

In April, Liv Barefoot was profiled in a story about UNC-Asheville’s new Leadership Scholars Program. The four-year program helps students develop their leadership skills through self-discovery, experiential learning, leadership opportunities and career readiness.
Jairus Cook (UNC-Charlotte) and Davis Anderson (Wellesley College) joined Ravens from the classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021 in sharing their experiences in college during the College Alumni Forum in January 2023 (see photo under 2020).
