Eleven fine arts students in eighth through 12th grades participated in Ravenscroft’s Concerto/Sonata/Aria Competition on Wednesday, Feb. 28. This competition is hosted each year for the department’s elite musicians and vocalists. Each competitor performs one movement from an advanced concerto, sonata or opera, which is a musical work written in three or four movements, or a work with the same length and level of difficulty.
This year’s performers in Division II (eighth grade and below) were Carson Hatefi ’28, Eve Munford ’28 and Grace Parker ’28. Congratulations to Grace Parker, who won this division with her performance of “Pie Jesu” from “Requiem” by Faure.
Division I (ninth through 12th grades) competitors were Sam Caplan ’26, Tul Cherukuri ’24, Karolyna Huntanar ’27, Yara Othman ’27, Kylie Scott ’24, Ellene Warner ’26, Rainy Ye ’27 and Henry Zhang ’25. Sam Caplan won this division with his performance of Boccherini Cello Concerto in Bb major by Boccherini. In addition, an Honorable Mention was awarded to Henry Zhang for his performance of Clarinet Concerto No. 1, Movement 3 by Weber.
