Announcing an All-Inclusive Lunch Program Beginning 2022-23

Ravenscroft is pleased to announce all-inclusive lunch program for all students in first through 12th grades. This exciting new program will begin at the start of the next school year in August 2022.

The Olander Center for Student Life is the home of a beautiful new dining hall that will have a tremendous impact on our community. Located on the first floor of the center, the dining hall with its vast windows will be an open and airy space filled with natural light and will provide Middle and Upper School students with a collegiate-style gathering space and dining experience. The center also provides a lovely new place for students and families to gather for breakfast, for parents and guardians to hold volunteer meetings and community-building gatherings, and for our school community to enjoy relaxing, snacking or studying after school.

With the addition of the dining hall in the Olander Center, our Lower School community will benefit greatly by becoming the sole customers of the current dining hall and, more importantly, being able to eat lunch at more appropriate times during the day. We will also make adjustments to the Lower School dining hall that include modifying the meal-serving lines to provide a better and faster experience and updating the space to support additional Lower School programming.

We place tremendous emphasis on the safety and well-being of our community, and part of that emphasis includes nutrition. Over the years, our partnership with Flik Independent School Dining has complemented our priority to provide students with nutrition education and healthy food choices. We are pleased to be taking this priority to the next level.

There are tremendous benefits to the all-inclusive lunch program, which takes into consideration many aspects of food sensitivities and food allergies. Lower School and Middle and Upper School students will have an overall better lunch experience — little to no waiting times or lines, no register check-out, and more food choices. With the majority of students returning to lunch in the dining halls (PreK and Kindergarten students will continue having lunch in their respective centers), the cafeteria-style experience will be radically different from past school years.

Highlights of the All-Inclusive Lunch Program

  • An “eat as much as you should” model that allows students to return for additional servings while promoting healthy choices and volume management.
  • Meals prepared daily from fresh ingredients that are sustainable and locally produced.
  • Greater variety of healthy food choices — including for those with food sensitivities.
  • Hot entree meal offered daily.
  • “Build Your Own” deli and salad stations for Middle and Upper Schools.
  • “Yogurt Station” for Middle and Upper Schools.
  • “Nibbles Station” for Lower School featuring premade sandwiches (cheese, turkey, ham, sunbutter and jelly), yogurts, cheese cubes and sliced meats.
  • Homemade soups.
  • Hand-held fresh fruits.
  • Desserts.
  • Milk, water and waterworks flavored waters.

The all-inclusive lunch program is required for all students in first through 12th grades and does come at an additional cost that will be included in tuition for 2022-23, in addition to the annual tuition increase.

Breakfasts, Snacks and For-Purchase Items
The Olander Center, featuring Papou’s Kitchen, will also offer breakfast for students and families beginning at 7:15 a.m. as well as additional retail items for purchase throughout the day. All families will be welcome to come to the center, purchase breakfast and enjoy it before starting the school day. During breaks, Middle and Upper School students are able to visit the center, purchase snacks and beverages using their MySchoolBucks account and enjoy a few minutes socializing with friends.
