Varsity boys basketball coach Kevin Billerman reached his 500th Ravenscroft victory on Feb. 2 with a 76-48 win over North Raleigh Christian. The milestone event took place in Warner Arena, where the court was named in his honor in 2019.

Billerman, in his 24th year as head coach, now has 502 wins. His Ravenscroft teams have played for four North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Championships, winning in 2012. In the Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference, Billerman has guided the Ravens to the conference championship for 17 of the last 18 seasons, including in 2023-24.

The Athletic Department recognized Billerman’s achievement at the winter-season Varsity Sports Awards.

“Kevin has reached a very impressive landmark, winning his 500th game as head basketball coach over 24 years. He has established himself as a coach that gets the best out of each of his players and teams with discipline and by emphasizing the fundamentals of the game of basketball,” Athletic Director Ned Gonet said. “Each year, his teams play extremely hard and with a strong aptitude of the game in order to reach and experience success! The relationships he develops with his players, both while they are part of his program and into their future years, is one of the main reasons our student-athletes enjoy playing for Kevin. We look forward to his continued success with our basketball program.”

“I am privileged and honored to coach at such a great institution as Ravenscroft,” Billerman said. “I need to thank all the excellent players and coaches I’ve worked with. Thank you as well to [Head of School] Doreen Kelly and Ned Gonet for allowing us to develop a winning culture.”

Billerman has been at Ravenscroft since 2000. He was recognized in 2007 with the Helton Award for excellence in teaching and distinguished service to the school. He became the Assistant Head of Upper School for Student Leadership in 2014, serving in that role until his retirement in 2022. He has coached many Ravens who have gone on to play at colleges and universities including Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, Wake Forest University, The United States Military Academy, UNC-Wilmington and others.

Billerman played basketball at Duke University 1973-1975. Prior to coming to Ravenscroft, he coached at Northern Durham High School, UNC-Charlotte and Florida Atlantic University, with stints in Europe and The World Basketball League as well. Overall, Billerman has been part of 905 victories as a basketball coach.

Congratulations to Coach Billerman!
