Billerman’s Legacy: A Quarter Century of Excellence in Ravenscroft Basketball

Kevin Billerman concluded a 26-year tenure at Ravenscroft School in December 2025, retiring with a 523–222 record as head coach of the varsity boys basketball program.

Billerman joined Ravenscroft in 2000 and served in multiple roles, including Upper School Academic Skills Instructor and Dean of Student Life. He built a highly competitive basketball program that consistently contended for conference and state championships. Under his leadership, the team won 23 Triangle Independent School Athletic Conference (TISAC) titles, including 13 consecutive titles from 2006 to 2019, and compiled a 93-game conference winning streak from 2006 to 2017.

Billerman guided Ravenscroft to multiple state championship finals, including 2003, 2005, and 2009, and led the team to the NCISAA state championship in 2012, finishing that season with a 31–3 record.

A former captain at Duke University, Billerman also brought prior collegiate coaching experience, including serving as head coach at Florida Atlantic University. His background contributed to the development and structure of the Ravenscroft program over more than two decades.

In addition to basketball, Billerman also served for many years as an assistant varsity football coach, further extending his impact across the athletic program. Throughout his coaching career, he mentored and developed countless student-athletes, many of whom continued their careers at the collegiate level. His influence reached even further, as several of his basketball players went on to compete professionally, with careers spanning across Asia, Europe, and even the NBA. In 2019, Ravenscroft recognized his contributions by naming the main basketball court in his honor.

“Kevin has made a tremendous impact on our institution both in the classroom as a teacher-mentor and administrator, as well as in athletics,” said Athletic Director Ned Gonet. “He served as an assistant varsity football coach for many years in addition to heading up our boys basketball program, where he built and sustained a strong and successful program for 26 years, winning numerous conference titles, as well as appearances in many state finals, capturing the 2012 championship. Over the years, he has instilled a pride in our program and helped develop the abilities of many of our student-athletes, who have taken their talent to the college level.”

His impact is perhaps best reflected in the words of those he coached. Jackson Rein ’24 shared, “Coach Billerman’s impact on my life goes far beyond anything that can be measured on the court. From the time I was in middle school through my senior year, he didn’t just develop me as a player—he helped shape who I am as a person. So much of what I’ve been able to achieve at the collegiate level is a direct reflection of the lessons, discipline, and belief he instilled in me. What makes him truly special, though, is that his support never stopped when I left his program. To this day, he still shows up—whether that’s calling to check in, coming to my games at Williams, or just taking the time to talk about life. Having someone like that in your corner is rare, and I’m incredibly grateful he’s been that person for me.”

Billerman’s tenure concludes with 523 varsity wins, contributing to an overall 933 victories as a basketball coach, placing him among the most successful coaches in program history. As Ravenscroft turns the page to a new chapter, the foundation he built will continue to define the program for years to come, and his impact will always be felt at center court.

“We truly appreciate the time, efforts, and contributions on behalf of Kevin and wish him well in future years,” Gonet said.
