The Ravenscroft Alumni Association inducted photographer Billy Howard ’73 into the Fine Arts Hall of Fame during the Alumni Awards Celebration on May 16.

Howard has built a distinguished career as a commercial and documentary photographer with a focus on health, education and social themes. His list of accomplishments is extensive and includes work featured in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress, the High Museum of Art, The Carter Presidential Center, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, The University of Georgia College of Environment+Design, MOCA GA  —  and, of course, Ravenscroft.

When Ravencroft celebrated its 150th anniversary, Howard, along with his wife Laurie Shock, worked diligently to capture and share the school’s history, providing insight and photography for the commemorative book “Ravenscroft, 150 Years — Young Travelers on the Path of Knowledge.”

Director of Fine Arts David McChesney presented the award to Howard. During his remarks, McChesney spoke of the tremendous talent and impact of Howard’s photography in the 150th book, saying the photos “capture the energy, emotion and impact of the subjects with such clarity that it literally takes your breath away.”

The Alumni Fine Arts Hall of Fame Award was created in 2013 to celebrate the Fine Arts Department’s legacy of excellence and the many individuals who have made invaluable artistic contributions to the school. Eligible alumni include professional artists, performers, lyricists, screen and theatrical writers, as well as faculty and staff who deserve to be honored for their contributions to the arts.

Howard is the seventh highly accomplished Raven to join the Fine Arts Hall of Fame. He joins opera singer and university professor William Joyner ’80; actor and philanthropist Emily Procter ’86; painter and Tucker Street alumna Marriott Procter Little ’47; former Director of Fine Arts and Assistant Head of School Jill Muti; actor/musician Michael C. Hall ’89; and filmmaker David Rountree ’93.

We are proud to welcome Billy Howard ’73 to the Ravenscroft Fine Arts Hall of Fame!
