The Ravenscroft boys and girls swim teams competed in the Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference Championship Swim Meet on Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Triangle Aquatic Center. The boys team finished first overall with 112 points and set multiple meet records. The girls team placed third overall with 31.50 points.

Mattaus Rammel ’26 was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer for the boys’ meet.

The results from the conference meet qualified both teams to compete in the 2024-25 North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Division I State Championships, which take place today at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

“We had some amazing swims at the TISAC Championships,” head swim coach Greg Warren said. “My goal every season is to focus on this meet and to have our entire team ready to swim their best. Our juniors and seniors swam well today, leading our team to the win, but it was also great to see some of our younger swimmers earning valuable points.”

Three boys relay teams set new records for the TISAC Championship Meet:

  • The 200 Medley team of Jackson Bubar ’25, Frank Hassell ’25, Mattaus Rammel ’26 and David Davis ’28 set a meet record with their time of 1:36.28.
  • The 200 Freestyle team of Kaleb James ’25, Jackson Bubar ’25, Frank Hassell ’25 and Drew Davis ’25 set a new meet record and a new school record  with their 1:26.28 finish.
  • The 400 Freestyle team of Mattaus Rammel ’26, David Davis ’28, Kaleb James ’25 and Drew Davis ’25 set a new meet record of 3:08.92.

Warren said he knew going in that the relay teams would play an important part in the conference championship meet.

Ravenscroft swimmers gather for a photo after a successful meet for both teams.

“I wanted to give our guys the best opportunity to win all three [relays]. I played around with the relay rosters a ton before the meet and had confidence in them that they could do it,” he said. “To win all three relays in a championship meet is pretty special, but setting a new TISAC record in each race was outstanding! I’m so proud of the boys for their overall win today, and we’re looking forward to our state championship meet!”

Several of the record-setting relay swimmers also won individual events as well:

  • Drew Davis ’25: 200 Freestyle
  • Kaleb James ’25: 100 Breaststroke
  • Mattaus Rammel ’26: 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle
  • Jackson Bubar ’25: 100 Butterfly

Many of these Ravens are repeat champions in TISAC events in relays and individual events. Three seniors have already signed scholarships to continue their athletic careers in college: Kaleb (Howard University), Drew (Bucknell University) and Jackson (Davidson College).

Mattaus said of the successful meet, “This was a huge team win for Ravenscroft. Everyone swam well and played their part in helping us win a championship. We could not have been this successful, and I certainly could not have won the Most Outstanding Swimmer award, without my teammates and coaches.”

Best of luck to the team today as they head into the state championship. Watch the action unfold on the Greensboro Aquatic Centers YouTube livestream.
