Ravenscroft varsity basketball standout Chance Gladden ’25 was named the Most Outstanding Player of the John Wall Holiday Invitational for the second consecutive season. The tournament took place at Broughton High School and William Peace University Dec. 26-28 and Dec. 30.

Chance led all scorers of the 24-team tournament with 91 points and 38 rebounds. He also dominated with a tournament-high average of 30.3 points per game.

Ravenscroft varsity boys basketball coach Kevin Billerman noted that Chance’s performance was impressive — particularly considering the level of competition at the annual event, now in its 52nd year.

“Chance once again played basketball at the highest level during the John Wall Holiday Invitational. Two teams we played against were ranked in the MaxPreps Top 15 North Carolina Rankings. In his final game against Davidson Day, he scored 34 points and had 17 rebounds and five assists,” he said. “This performance will go into the Holiday Invitational record book!”

“Just being able to participate in the tournament is amazing,” Chance said of the experience. “Trying to win games was the most important to me — although being named Most Outstanding Player for the second year in a row is amazing, and I’m very glad my hard work is showing.”

Coming out of the 2023-24 season at Ravenscroft, Chance was an NCISAA All-State selection, the All-TISAC Player of the Year, and the team MVP. He was also the John Wall Holiday Tournament’s MOP that year and set their single-game scoring record with 57 points vs Southern Durham. He also holds the record for the most points scored in a Ravenscroft season, with 759. A Jimmy V Classic MVP, Gladden plays outside of Ravenscroft for the Team CP3, a premier AAU team in the state and nation.

He will continue his basketball career at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Congratulations to Chance on this recognition!
