Coach David Myers Notches 200th Win With Middle School Green Team

Longtime Middle School girls basketball coach David Myers hit a big career milestone this week, notching his 200th win with the Green team at an away game against St. Timothy’s School on Jan. 26. The Athletic Department recognized the accomplishment in a presentation during the lead-up to today’s 4 p.m. home game against Summit School.

Myers, who is also the chair of the Physical Education Department and a Lower School P.E. teacher, has coached the Green team since their 2006-07 season. Although the team did not play any games in 2020-21 due to COVID, this season’s squad is 9-0 heading into today’s game.

In remarks made during the presentation, Assistant Athletic Director Jim Gibbons said, “During his 15 seasons of coaching basketball here at Ravenscroft, Dave has built a culture of success with our Middle School Green team. He has coached two undefeated teams as well as three seasons with only one loss. His overall career record is 200-36, with an 85% winning percentage. Dave’s teams are fundamentally sound, play with knowledge of the game and always represent Ravenscroft with excellent sportsmanship and class.

“Coach Myers will point the success to his athletes, but he is the common denominator with all of these teams,” Gibbons added.

Many of Myers’ players have gone on to winning records as part of the varsity squad. Ravenscroft’s varsity girls basketball team has been a powerhouse over the last decade, winning TISAC conference championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020 and going all the way to the state championship in 2019.

“We are really honored to celebrate Coach Myers’s 200th win,” varsity girls basketball coach Mike Ramel said. “This milestone achievement is a true testament to the value of Coach Myers as part of our girls basketball program at Ravenscroft — not only for his dedication to success on the court but for all of the girls who have come through the program that he has mentored, guided and left a lasting impression on.”

For his part, Myers said he prefers to keep his focus on the reason he’s so enjoyed his 15 seasons of coaching girls basketball at Ravenscroft: his players.

“I’m very proud of the girls and the work they do that makes this program a success,” he said. “It’s typically a different group of players each year, and for me it’s a testament to the athletes’ buying into what we’re trying to accomplish each season. I have a ton of great memories from these kids over the years, and that’s what I’m reflecting on as I reach this milestone.

“We’ve been blessed with a lot of good athletes and even better kids, and that’s what makes this so special.”
