Duke Finley '76 Honored as Distinguished Alumnus

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor a Ravenscroft alumnus can receive. This year’s honoree is Duke Finley '76, whose commitment to the school spans more than five decades and multiple generations. Finley’s leadership of The Finley Foundation is a cornerstone of Ravenscroft’s legacy and a continuation of his family’s commitment to the school for more than 50 years.

“You have been a student, an alumnus and a parent,” said Giny Wheeler '76, who presented her classmate Finley with the award. “Tonight, we add distinguished alumni. To me, you are the epitome of the school colors. You are benevolent with the green and you have a pure heart of gold,” Wheeler said.

Finley has led the A.E. Finley Foundation board for eight years. During that time, he has worked tirelessly to continue the spirit of philanthropy started by his great uncle A.E. Finley. The Finley family’s work has had a tremendous impact on not just Ravenscroft but the entire city of Raleigh.

It was only fitting that Finley received the Distinguished Alumni Award in the A.E. Finley Activity Center.

“We often share the immense joy we receive in giving,” said Wheeler. “Duke, you are the inspiration, having paired success with service and character.”
