Robby Grant '26 Wins Athlete of the Week

For his outstanding achievements in the classroom, on the track, and in the community, the Raleigh Sports Club recognized Robby Grant ’26 as its Student-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Grant was selected based on his outstanding leadership, character, and commitment to excellence as a student-athlete.

Now entering its 62nd year, the Raleigh Sports Club has a long-standing tradition of recognizing exceptional student-athletes across Wake County. Central to the organization’s mission is celebrating young leaders who excel in both athletics and academics. In addition to its weekly recognitions, the Raleigh Sports Club awards $2,000 scholarships annually to deserving student-athletes.

A standout sprinter and team leader, Grant has been a driving force for Ravenscroft Track and Field, both indoor and outdoor, since he began competing at the varsity level in eighth grade. A five-year letter winner and three-time team captain, he has earned five All-Conference honors, three Conference Championships, and recognition as both a Team MVP and Coaches Award recipient. Grant holds school records in the 55-meter dash (6.50 seconds), 300-meter dash (35.81 seconds), and 400-meter dash (50.56 seconds), has earned All-American honors at Adidas Nationals, and qualified for both New Balance Nationals and the 2025 Junior Olympics.

Grant has distinguished himself as an exceptional scholar, earning a 4.3 GPA while preparing to attend Johns Hopkins University, where he plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Physics with aspirations of eventually earning a doctorate degree. Driven by a passion for discovery and innovation, Grant hopes to make a meaningful impact in the scientific community. He has also committed to continue his track and field career at Johns Hopkins beginning this fall.

Beyond academics and athletics, Grant is deeply involved in extracurricular and service activities. His interests include astronomy, record collecting, and traveling, and he has volunteered extensively with Special Olympics, local shelters, area clean-up initiatives, and multiple race events reflecting a strong commitment to service and community engagement.

Head Track and Field Coach Gabrielle Brown  praised Grant’s work ethic and character. “I always tell my athletes that hard work meets talent every day,” Brown said. “But when you have a talented hard worker, that is a coach’s dream come true. I am incredibly proud and honored to coach Robby Grant.”
