The Raleigh Sports Club honored Ravenscroft varsity cross country and track and field athlete Haley Browne ’25 as their Student-Athlete of the Week at their weekly luncheon on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Breon Pass, an NC State basketball player and senior at the university, was the guest speaker.

Haley was selected for this recognition based on her excellent academic performance, community service and success as a cross country and track athlete. She is a Ravenscroft nine-time letter winner in cross country and track and field. She is a two-time cross country team MVP (2023, 2024) and an All-TISAC performer, including TISAC champion this fall. She placed sixth in the fall’s NCISAA state meeting, earning all-state honors. Haley was the 2024 girls’ spring track team MVP and in the winter season, she was the team MVP and an all-state competitor.

In addition, Haley is a member of the National Honor Society, Head of School Honor Roll and an International Diploma candidate. She received the Gold Pacesetter Award from the American Cancer Society and has participated in Ravenscroft’s Student Athlete Leadership Training (SALT) program for two years.

“Haley is a dedicated student-athlete who leads the cross country and track team through her consistency and commitment,” Director of Student-Athlete Wellbeing Sam Borkovic said. “She exemplifies mental toughness, balancing her rigorous training regimen over the course of multiple seasons. Haley sets high-performance goals and utilizes the team around her to build endurance and pace. She is a role model to her peers during Student Athlete Leadership Training as well, offering insightful comments and perspective about building team culture.”

Haley will attend Boston University in Massachusetts and compete in both sports for the Terriers.

"Haley is a very dedicated individual who works extremely hard day in and day out.  She has consistently improved every season,” Varsity Cross Country Coach Jim Van Veen said. “I am excited to see what she does at the collegiate level."

Raleigh Sports Club is beginning its 61st year recognizing talented, well-rounded student-athletes in Wake County. They host weekly luncheons featuring speakers representing all parts of the college and professional athletic scene.

“I wouldn’t be able to have accomplished my running goals without my amazing coaches, teammates, the athletic administration at Ravenscroft, or my family,” Haley said of being chosen for the award. “I am excited to continue my cross-country and track career at Boston University this fall. I am eager to become a better athlete and teammate in a new environment, but I will always be filled with gratitude for everything and everyone who has helped me get to where I am today.”

Assistant Athletic Director Jim Gibbons has worked with Haley over the years during her time in SALT. “Haley is a model Ravenscroft student-athlete who achieves a high level in everything she pursues,” Gibbons said. We are fortunate to have Haley as a member of our community.”
