Former Varsity Boys soccer coach and IT specialist Alix Charles passed away on May 27, 2026. Charles described himself as “a soccer coach who knows how to get results.” And he did just that. Charles spent more than 10 years at Ravenscroft. He led the Varsity Boys Soccer team to multiple Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference (TISAC) titles and numerous appearances at the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) state semifinals and finals. In 2015, Charles was nominated Coach of the Year for Region I, and in 2019 was named Raleigh Sports Club Coach of the Year.

Beyond excellence in coaching at Ravenscroft, Charles played an integral role in the ideation and development of the Keim Center for Innovation and Research.

From his obituary, Alix retired from coaching and his professional career in 2020. Those who knew him will remember his love of singing and playing the guitar, raising rottweilers, watching soccer, supporting his children, playing with his grandchildren, and perfecting his landscape design alongside his wife. His family knew him for his special blend of Haitian Dad jokes, where he was just happy to make everyone laugh, even if it was at his expense. Alix touched the hearts of everyone he met through his warm smile, his patience, and his ability to make everyone he encountered feel special.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the US Soccer Foundation or to the Leukemia Research Foundation.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. 

A mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 12, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 520 W. Holding Ave., Wake Forest, NC 27587. 

The family will have a repast immediately following the service from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
