Former Facilities Department member Melissa Hogan passed away on May 2, 2024. She was 57.
Hogan was born in Raleigh and was a graduate of Cary High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from NC State in 2006. She worked at Ravenscroft as the administrative assistant for the maintenance team from 2011 to 2020. Her daughter, Tori ’18, is a Ravenscroft alum.
In her published obituary, Hogan’s family remembered her this way:
Melissa was a fun-loving person, who enjoyed laughing and making others laugh. She loved her friends and family deeply and would do anything for them. She helped arrange a summer job for her nephew through Ravenscroft when there were none to be found and then let him live with her for two months, so he’d be close to the office. She would purchase gifts for friends if she was out shopping and saw something she knew they would like. She was a wonderful cook and particularly liked to make extra-big pots of soup, chili and homemade spaghetti sauce to share with her coworkers. She loved cats and couldn’t resist bringing the strays home that she found. One of her favorites was Fender, who got his name because she found him hiding in the fender of a car. She was skilled at crossword puzzles, not having any difficulty completing the challenging Friday ones. She loved playing board games, shooting off fireworks and spending time at the beach. Melissa loved anything purple, the show “Twilight” with Jackson Rathbone, the series “Firefly,” the video game Tomb Raider, and her beloved Hurricanes. But what she loved the most was her daughter, Tori.
A memorial service will be held at The Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church, 200 High Meadow Drive in Cary, North Carolina, on Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m. The family encourages attendees to wear “a little something purple!”
