Former Upper School English teacher Ruth Dudley Turner Camp, 63, died on Feb. 16, 2025, at her home in Raleigh.
Camp spent her childhood in Raleigh and attended Saint Mary's School. For her final year of high school, she attended Phillips Exeter Academy, where she was a member of the first co-ed class.
Following in a proud family tradition, Ruthie graduated from Wake Forest University, earning a B.A. in English in 1984. There, she was a member of the Fideles Society and participated in a study abroad program in Venice, which sparked an enduring love for Italian art, culture, and language.
After graduating, she returned to Raleigh, where she taught Upper School English at Ravenscroft School in the 1986-87 school year.
She launched a 30-year career in business development and community relations, including 13 years as the President of the World Trade Center North Carolina and 20 years as the President of Turner Camp International.
She married Steve Camp in 1991.
Camp brought a dynamic spirit to her work in the community, where she served on charitable Boards at the North Carolina Museum of History, the American Red Cross and the Dix Park Conservancy and as a trustee of the Josephine S. Leiser Foundation. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Raleigh Fine Arts Society, the Junior League of Raleigh and the Carolina Country Club. She was a longtime member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, where her paternal grandfather was the founding pastor. She chaired the congregation's Preschool Board of Directors and was a devoted member of the Cashwell Sunday School class.
