Coach Ned Gonet received the Class of 1862 Award, which recognizes non-alumni for outstanding contributions to the school through dedicated service or volunteer support. After 45 years of shaping Ravenscroft Athletics and the lives of countless student-athletes, Gonet was welcomed to the alumni community with this honorary recognition. 

Ned’s impact extends far beyond his day-to-day work as Director of Athletics and spans generations of Ravens. Whether you played for Ned on the football field during his 42 years as head coach, the court where he and the Varsity Girls Basketball Team brought home two state titles, or the baseball field, you learned more than just the game; you learned about life. 

Gonet’s sons, Cole Gonet '09 and Connor Gonet '11, presented him with the award and talked about how meaningful it was for them to grow up on Ravenscroft’s campus. They noted how even in their professional lives, they are often struck by the number of people who ask them if they are Coach Gonet’s sons. 

“He’s had a huge impact over many generations and we all appreciate him,” Cole said. “We all appreciate him, and I’m glad we have the opportunity to appreciate him tonight – even though I know he doesn’t like the attention. Over nearly 50 years and a lot of accomplishments, it’s certainly earned.”

As head football coach, Gonet guided the Ravens to five state championships and eight conference titles, earning Conference Coach of the Year honors eight times and State Coach of the Year twice. On the basketball court, Gonet’s 17 seasons coaching Varsity Girls Basketball produced a remarkable 383-125 record along with 11 conference championships and two state titles.
