Lower School students fill the stands to cheer the athletes as they parade into the stadium.
As it has for more than 30 years, Ravenscroft hosted Special Olympics of Wake County’s Spring Games today, bringing all three divisions and members of the broader community together to cheer and support the nearly 270 athletes from 22 local schools.
Facilities Coordinator Megan Moody, who has led the planning of this event since 2023, reported that 216 adult volunteers from the Ravenscroft community and beyond signed up to help make the day special for all of the participants. In keeping with Ravenscroft’s focus on citizen leadership, the 116 students in the Class of 2027 also dedicated their day to service.
This year, 24 of those sophomores completed the Youth Games Management training program, taking on leadership roles that went above and beyond the expectation for their class. In addition, six members of the Class of 2026 and one senior in the Class of 2025 with prior YGM experience volunteered to return as liaisons and provide support for their Raven counterparts in the sophomore class.
As has long been the tradition, students from the Lower School and Middle School came out to cheer the athletes during the Opening Ceremony and throughout the main event.
