Ravens Make Waves at TISAC Championship Meet

The Ravenscroft Boys Swim Team delivered a championship-winning performance at the Triangle Independent School Athletic Conference (TISAC) Meet, powered by standout individual swims, clutch relay victories, and strategic depth across the lineup. The meet proved to be a true team effort, with three swimmers winning both of their individual events while also contributing to relay victories, underscoring the balance, versatility, and determination of the Ravens’ program.

Senior Mattaus Rammel ’26 anchored the Ravens’ title run with a historic performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, breaking both TISAC and school records. His time eclipsed the previous mark set by Bode Ringenbach ’21, which also stood as the TISAC Championship Meet record. For the second consecutive season, Rammel was named Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Conference Championship Meet.

Rammel continued his dominance by capturing the 200-yard individual medley, narrowly missing Matt McGinnis’s 2004 school record. He was also a key contributor to the winning 200-yard freestyle relay, teaming up with Jacob Hodgkins ’29, Ryan Cleaver ’27, and David Davis ’28.

Entering the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Ravens trailed Cary Academy by just three points. Anchored by Rammel, the relay surged to victory to secure a dramatic one-point overall team victory. The relay lineup included Hodgkins, Caleb Bubar ’28, and Ray Tseng ’29 on the opening legs.

Both Davis and Hodgkins matched Rammel’s meet point total with exceptional performances. Davis won the 50-yard freestyle and set a new TISAC Championship Meet record in the 100-yard butterfly with a blazing time of 49.94. Hodgkins claimed conference titles in both the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle.

Davis also joined Cleaver, Carson Hatefi ’28, and Tseng on the winning 200-yard medley relay. Cleaver added to the Ravens’ success with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke.

The TISAC Championship Meet scores the top eight finishers in each event, with a maximum of three scorers per school. Ravens swimmers from 7th through 12th grade contributed points throughout the meet, highlighting the team’s depth and strong future outlook.

Additional Ravens point scorers included:

Caleb Bubar ’28: 4th – 200 Free | 3rd – 500 Free

Ray Tseng ’29: 7th – 100 Fly | 4th – 100 Back

Carson Hatefi ’28: 4th – 100 Free | 8th – 100 Breast

Callum Hoffmann: 6th – 500 Free | 8th – 100 Back

Reflecting on the meet, Coach Warren offered insight into the team’s approach:

“Going into the meet, I knew that competing with Cary Academy’s depth would require a strategic approach. To maximize our scoring opportunities, we needed to win all three relays by spreading out our swimmers as much as possible. Since swimmers can only compete in two relays if they swim two individual events, we were intentional with our lineup. I felt confident that Mattaus and David would be favorites in any event they swam.

In Mattaus’s case, we placed him in two events that are typically outside his normal races but aligned with Cary Academy’s strengths. Their depth is impressive, and this strategy helped limit their overall scoring potential.

David delivered outstanding performances in both of his events. With Jacob winning both of his races and Ryan capturing the 100-yard backstroke, we put ourselves in a position to win the meet.

While we had strong swims across the board, two seniors truly stood out with impressive time drops. Matthew Boyce placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, and Evan Hatefi earned third in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, providing key points for the team.”

Important individual points were added by Brinkley Argenta ’26, Sophia Slotnik ’29, May Wright ’31, and Eloise Pye ’30, each making an impact in their respective events.

Relay performances played a key role in the team’s success. The 200-yard medley relay, featuring Hassell, Mary Evans Baccus ’28, Wright, and Taylor Gregory ’26 earned a fourth-place finish, as did the 200-yard freestyle relay of Carter Overcash ’28, Gregory, Pye, and Slotnik.

The meet concluded on a high note as the final relay. Wright, Slotnik, Argenta, and Hassell finished third, capping off a strong team performance.
