Ravens Medal, Break School Records at State Track & Field Championship

The Ravenscroft varsity track & field team brought home two medals and set two new school records in a strong showing at the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association's state championship, held Saturday, May 15. The girls team placed ninth, while the boys team finished 13th overall.

Zoe King '22, who won the conference championship in the triple jump last weekend, brought home another medal after placing third in the high jump. Mason Zervos '21 placed third in the shot put.

In addition, the girls 4x100 relay team of Moriah Evans '24, Danielle Williams '22, Morgan Debrah '22 and Alex Richmond '23 finished fourth in a new school record of 50:87. The girls 4x200 relay of Moriah Evans '24, Zoee Bishop-Bridges '21, Morgan Debrah '22 and Alex Richmond '23 also finished fourth and set a new school record of 1:48.63.

Other top finishers for the girls included:

  • Zoe King '22, fourth in the pole vault and seventh in the triple jump
  • Grace Petrov '24, seventh in the 400 meters
  • Alex Richmond '23, seventh in the high jump
  • Danielle Williams '22, eighth in the 100 meters
  • Talia Granick '21, eighth in the shot put
  • Laurel Carter '23, eighth in the pole vault

The TISAC-championship boys 4x100 relay team of Jonathan Phillips '21, Julian Quao '21, Shane Olander '22 and Thomas Brown '21 finished fourth.

Other top finishers for the boys included:

  • Thomas Brown '21, fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 200 meters
  • Jonathan Phillips '21, seventh in the 110-meter hurdles
  • Jacob Margraf '23, sixth in the pole vault
  • Dexter Beatty '23, eighth in the pole vault

"There were many great performances by the Ravens against the top competition from across the state," head coach Mike Ramel said. "Our team includes many juniors and sophomores, so it was a great experience for them to see what it takes to be the best in their respective events. We look forward to building on this experience in years to come and thank our seniors for their outstanding effort through the years."
