During the 2025-26 school year, Middle and Upper School Latin and Greek students participated in three different competitive exams, winning several notable awards. Students who are enthusiastic about etymology and mythology, both those who study Classical languages and those who do not, also excelled on competitive exams in these areas.

National Classical Etymology Exam

Per the Junior Classical League website, “The National Classical Etymology Exam (NCEE) is designed to test a student's ability to handle both Latin and Greek derivatives and their usage in the English language.” As is clear from the results, Ravenscroft students prepared for this successfully, both during meetings of Classics Club and on their own.

National Greek Exam

The National Greek Exam is sponsored by the American Classical League and allows students to demonstrate their ability to read and interpret Attic Greek. The students in Honors Greek I achieved impressive results for their performance.

CAMWS International Latin Translation Exam

The CAMWS International Latin Translation exam tests the ability of Latin students to read and translate Latin into idiomatic English. It is a highly competitive exam, with a cash award for the highest achievement. Several Ravenscroft students opted to take it, and two won prizes for their performance.

Medusa Mythology Exam

The Medusa Mythology is organized around a different theme each year. In 2026, it was Game of Thrones: Olympian Edition, which focused on struggles between the Olympian gods and goddesses. National Latin Exam

The National Latin Exam offers students the opportunity to win recognition for their ability to read Latin and their knowledge of ancient Greek and Roman culture on a multiple-choice exam. Once again, Ravenscroft students performed at a high level, earning numerous awards at each level offered. Of particular note is the Special Book Award for four Gold Medals on the National Latin Exam awarded to Grace Parker ‘28.
