With legendary teachers and coaches Ed Yohman and Jimmy Cox on hand as honorary co-chairs, the 25th Annual Ravenscroft Golf Classic drew a record number of philanthropic-minded golfers in support of Ravenscroft athletics earlier this week. The event raised $60,000, with another $11,000 in expected corporate sponsor contributions.

The classic, held Monday, Oct. 4, on both the Lakes and the Oaks courses at North Ridge Country Club, was hosted by the parent-led Ravens Athletic Club and co-chaired by Kenneth (’85) and Tammy Haywood (pictured at top left with Cox and Yohman).

This year’s tournament also featured a tournament-within-a-tournament as alumni golf teams vied for the inaugural Cox Cup. The cup honors Cox, who coached the varsity boys golf team for many years until his retirement in 2019. The winning team comprised Reeves Zaytoun ’11, Thomas Sigmon ’13, Carr Walker ’13 and James Turner ’13.

In all, there were 25 alumni participants and 11 alumni parent participants. Five of the event’s foursomes were entirely composed of alumni.

“It was so wonderful to have Jimmy Cox and Ed Yohman as our honorary co-chairs for the golf tournament this year,” Alumni Engagement Officer Dan Ressner ’99 said. “Their standing among alumni really helped to draw in alumni participation, and it was great to see them both. We hope to continue to grow the number of alumni participants every tournament!”

The event’s co-chairs were equally pleased.

“We were excited to have the opportunity to chair this event, especially since it was the milestone 25th,” Tammy Haywood said. “The committee worked hard to secure a record number of sponsors, and our golfers came out in record number as well — 168! — with a waitlist. It was great to see new families and so many alumni participate and, of course, having Coach Ed Yohman and Coach Jimmy Cox as honorary co-chairs was a bonus!”

“As an alum myself, and as alumni and current parents, Tammy and I know the important role that athletics play in the lives of our students, from our PreK to our 12th-grade athletes,” Kenneth Haywood added. “We are thrilled that this tournament was such a success to benefit this part of their Ravenscroft experience.”
