Co-Director of College Counseling Sean Kennedy has been named President-Elect of the  Southern Association for College Admission Counseling. SACAC announced the news on March 21.

The nonprofit professional association was founded in 1966 as a chartered affiliate of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). Its 2,200-plus members work in secondary schools, colleges and universities, independent educational roles and community-based educational organizations in the Southeast region of the U.S. as well the Caribbean. Their shared objective is to promote high professional standards in the college-admission process by exchanging ideas, sharing common goals and preparing counselors to serve students in the transition from high school to college.

Kennedy has been a member of the SACAC Board of Directors for the past five years, co-chairing at different times the associations Communications, Admission Practices and Strategic Planning committees.

At Ravenscroft, Kennedy has served as Co-Director of College Counseling for nine years. All total, he has 23 years of experience in college counseling.

“I am deeply humbled and honored by the opportunity to serve SACAC as its next President-Elect in 2023-24 and in the remainder of the presidential cycle in subsequent years. The professional relationships and professional development gained as a SACAC member have been invaluable to my professional practice,” he said. “As I continue my leadership journey in SACAC, I am excited to support the tremendous work of college-access professionals throughout our region. I am grateful to the Ravenscroft administration and to my awesome colleagues in the Ravenscroft College Counseling Office for supporting me in this opportunity.”

Kennedy’s co-director Lia Prugh said the opportunity is well-deserved.

“SACAC plays an important role in supporting the work of college admissions professionals and in advocating for an equitable, inclusive college admissions process for all students,” she said. “I am excited that Sean is taking on this leadership role because of his passion for counseling Ravenscroft students throughout the college-application process, and I know that his knowledge and devotion to the field will make an impact even outside of our community.”
