Ryan Jiang ’32, now a Ravenscroft fourth-grader
A short film starring Ravenscroft student Ryan Jiang ’32 was screened at the Indie Memphis Film Festival late last month.
The 10-minute film, originally titled “Waipo’s Garden,” was shared under a new title, “Lan’s Garden.” The movie is about a Chinese grandmother struggles to accept the help of her family, as she considers it to be a reversal of their roles.
In addition to Ryan, his grandmother, Lan Miao, and his parents, Kathy Wu and Ning Jiang, are credited as cast members. The movie was filmed over five days in the summer of 2022, when Ryan was a rising third-grader. He wrote about the ups and downs of filming the movie in a reflection for Voices, Ravenscroft Magazine’s first-person storytelling feature, last fall.
“I am really happy that the movie was screened at the festival,” Ryan said. “I want to thank my family for helping me act in the movie, and most of all I thank the director and the crew for making this happen. This is a nice memory and experience for me, and I hope people like the movie.”
Congratulations to Ryan and his family for this achievement!
