Spirit Week, Parade of Fall Athletes Fire Up Campus for Homecoming

Heading into Homecoming weekend, the Fall 2021 Spirit Week gave Ravens of all ages the opportunity to show their spirit and get pumped up for the full slate of athletic events on Friday afternoon and evening.

The week kicked off with themed dress-up days that saw faculty, staff and students embrace their goofy sides in a serious show of school spirit. Pajama Day, Favorite Sports/Team Jersey/Shirt Day, Wacky Tacky Day, Tropical Day and Green & Gold Day brought fun to the school routine and allowed even our youngest Ravens to express their creativity and school spirit.

Assistant Head of Lower School Steven Mercado said of the week’s events, “Lower School students looked forward to dressing up and enjoying everyone’s silly clothes this week. It seemed like a dress rehearsal for Halloween! I was happy to see that every teacher and student participated in their own way.”

On Thursday night, the senior girls won a hard-fought game against the junior girls in the Women’s Championship Flag Football Game. (Congratulations, Class of 2022!) Today — with fun spirit gear provided to each division by the Parents’ Association — the school community enjoyed a new spin on the fall pep rally, gathering along the campus green for a cheer-filled parade of athletes, accompanied by upbeat music by the school bands. Middle and Upper School students stayed to enjoy remarks from Athletic Director Ned Gonet, a performance by the cheerleaders and the introduction of the 2021 Homecoming Court.

The new event energized attendees across campus and showed just how much our students, faculty and staff treasure being part of the Ravenscroft community.

“It was amazing for me, as a coach and teacher, to see the varsity field hockey team recognized with their fellow athletes today at the Homecoming parade,” Physical Education teacher Michelle Then said. “After this long stretch with COVID, it feels like we are getting back our school spirit and traditions!”
