Chloe Mikles Stoffers '16 was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame for a swimming career that can only be described as dominant. Over six varsity seasons, she never lost a race and captured an astounding 16 state championships – eight individual titles and eight relay titles.

Head Swim Coach Greg Warren, who presented the award, reflected on her historic impact. “In high school swimming, athletes can compete in a maximum of four events per meet,” Warren said. “She went undefeated during the regular season as a freshman and then won every single event she entered at the state level for four consecutive years.”

During her tenure, Ravenscroft’s Swim Team won four consecutive state championships, with Mikles playing a pivotal role in each victory. She was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and earned recognition as the News and Observer Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015.

Mikles continued her swimming career at Cornell University, competing all four years while pursuing her academic passions. She recently completed her Ph.D. at Stanford University’s Hopkins Marine Station, where her doctoral research focused on Atlantic bluefin tuna. Working with the Big Rock Foundation, she electronically tagged tuna and billfish off the coast of North Carolina.

Today, Mikles is a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford and partners with the Guy Harvey Foundation to study black marlin in the Eastern Tropical Pacific.

Calvin Atkeson '18 was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame for a remarkable multi-sport career, highlighting his achievements in both football and wrestling.

Wrestling Coach Garrett Cummings delivered a humor-filled award presentation where he highlighted Atkeson’s many accomplishments. Cummings thanked legendary basketball coach Jimmy Cox for cutting Atkeson from Middle School Basketball tryouts as a seventh grader.

“Thank you, from the hearts of all wrestling coaches from 2013 to 2018, for cutting Calvin,” Cummings said. “Coach Cox’s ruthless, cold-hearted roster decisions got us an all-time wrestler, regardless of weight class, for six years.

Atkeson went on to become a four-time conference champion in wrestling, a three-time NCISAA (North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association) state finalist, and a two-time state champion at heavyweight. He was named the 2018 TISAC (Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference) Wrestler of the Year and finished his career with an impressive 127-20 record. His senior year was particularly dominant – he went undefeated in the state, leading the team in wins and pins. His final state championship victory came against Ikem Ekwonu, who would go on to become a first-round NFL draft pick for the Carolina Panthers.

On the football field, Atkeson was equally impressive as a four-year letter winner who earned All-Conference and All-State honors twice.

He went on to continue his football and academic career at Dartmouth College, where he made an impact on the offensive line while earning a degree in applied mathematics. Today, he lives in the San Francisco Bay area and works as a software engineer for Badger Meter.
