Congratulations to the Ravenscroft Varsity Boys Soccer team for winning their second consecutive title at Ravenscroft’s 47th Annual Soccer Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11.
With weather delays postponing a number of games until Friday, the team faced two grueling back-to-back games on Saturday. Showing tremendous perseverance, the varsity boys had outstanding performances in each of the three games leading to the title. The team won all three games without conceding a goal, defeating Neuse Christian 8-0 in the first round, Wake Christian 1-0 in the semifinals, and Charlotte Latin 2-0 in the final game. Of note, Charlotte Latin is currently coached by Ravenscroft alumni Lee Horton ’74, who is a member of our Athletic Hall of Fame and will be retiring at the end of the school year.
In addition, four Ravenscroft players received All-Tournament Team Honors:
- Midfielder Christopher Glenn ’22
- Midfielder Shane Olander ’22
- Midfielder Samuel Petrov ’22
- Goalkeeper Christopher Lorenz ’23
This title is Ravenscroft’s second consecutive invitational tournament title and the first time that the Ravens have won consecutive invitational tournaments since 1985 and 1986.
“I am extremely proud of the team and our victory in the Invitational this year,” Coach Dan Ressner ’99 said. “The grit and heart that the boys displayed throughout the tournament, and particularly in the final against Latin, was awe-inspiring. The way that they played for each other is a testament to the chemistry that we have built so far this season. It was truly a team win and provides a lot of momentum for us as we enter the second half of the season.”
