Ravenscroft’s parent-led volunteer groups have been busy since the opening of school — with some outstanding results.
As COVID protocols continue to necessitate limits on on-campus visitors, the groups kicked off the year with a virtual Parent Volunteer Fair. Leaders from all five parent groups — the Fine Arts Association, Global Parent Ambassadors, RAC (Ravens Athletic Club), Parents’ Association and PSDI (Parents Supporting Diversity and Inclusion) — shared their plans for the 2021-22 school year and promoted opportunities for families from all divisions to get involved. It’s never too late to jump in: meeting dates and times are posted regularly in the Ravenscroft Weekly, and all interested parents and guardians are welcome to join.
Recently, PA and RAC volunteers joined forces to make the Fall Spirit Week a special one campus-wide. From fall-themed decorations all across the campus to spirit bags and gear for every student, these parent volunteers helped ensure that green-and-gold pride was on display during Friday’s Parade of Athletes and at the evening’s Homecoming sporting events. Teachers and staff were also celebrated with Take-and-Bake meals provided by the PA in partnership with Rocky Top Catering and distributed by Faculty and Staff Appreciation Committee members Shawna Browne, Sherry Corkum, Patricia Edwards, Julie McGinnis and Jennifer Munford.
The PA would like to thank division coordinators Amy Holman, Jenn Martin, Christina Woelffer, Tamika Henderson, Erin Hollingshead and Pam Russell for helping organize the distribution of spirit bags and gear to all our students.
RAC has also hosted two signature athletic events this fall. Thank you to Caline Glenn and Candace Olander for their work on the hard-fought 47th Annual Ravenscroft Soccer Invitational on Sept. 10-11 and to Kelly Gould ’90 and co-chairs Tammy and Kenneth Haywood ’85 for their contributions to the incredibly successful 25th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, Oct. 4.
Next week on Oct. 20, PSDI continues its parent education and outreach efforts by hosting “Talking With Children About Why Racial Language Matters in the 21st Century, ” a discussion with Dr. Rupert Nacoste. More information is available here.
Parent energy and involvement remains strong and truly makes a difference for all those in our Ravenscroft community. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers!
We value the contributions of every volunteer! If your name has been inadvertently omitted from a volunteer acknowledgment list, please contact Brooke McDaniel, Parent Group Manager.
