About Leah Horton ’18

Leah Baynes Horton, a product of multiple generations of North Carolina natives, was raised amid the natural splendor of Raleigh. Her artistic journey, kindled from a young age, drew inspiration from her upbringing under the tutelage of her scientist parents, leading to a fascination with anatomy and physiology that is reflected in her art.

Triumphing over challenges of neurodivergence, Horton was determined to thrive as an artist — which propelled her forward despite academic and artistic critiques. Her nomadic youth instilled a global perspective, enriching her artistic vision. Pursuing her passion for fashion design and textiles at the Parsons School of Design in Manhattan, she expanded her creative repertoire, integrating her enduring love for nature into her work.

Horton’s achievements have included multiple exhibitions, features and the growth of her business, The Human Collection, which she founded at age 16. The Human Collection specializes in crafting a diverse range of textile creations, home decorations, kitchen dining essentials, custom cards, commissioned artwork and fashion pieces, tailored to elevate every aspect of life.

Recently completing a residency in Raleigh, Horton continues to push artistic boundaries, infusing her creations with vibrancy and curiosity. With a dedication to exploring the depths of the human psyche, she embodies the ever-evolving nature of creativity, leaving an indelible mark on the world. Today, she is expanding her empire by working on a patent that harnesses her creative textile skills and passion for psychology to make a meaningful impact on the medical world.
