Third-Grader Shares Ups and Downs of Making a Short Film
- Voices
From staying fresh through multiple takes to working with stunt doubles, Ryan Jiang ’32 explores how he persevered through the many new experiences on set with his family.
As third-grader Ryan Jiang explains, his participation in the short film “Waipo’s Garden” this past summer was a true family affair. Working with his mother and his grandmother — who plays the gardener in the title — he pushed through long days in the hot sun, surprises during stunts and the relative monotony of doing multiple takes. His motivation? Wanting to “get it right” for his grandmother.
The film is in post-production and aiming for festival submissions in early 2023.
Ryan wrote this journal with the encouragement and support of his second-grade teacher, Kathleen Patterson.
